Whether teaching economics and government or mentoring independent research, my goal is to help students develop the skills to work through problems on their own. We begin by understanding the underlying concepts, organize them into a clear analytical framework, and apply that framework to new questions and evidence.
Sessions are tailored to each student's goals, from mastering course material and preparing for exams to developing and completing an original research project.
Independent Research Mentoring
Good research begins with a question worth investigating. I work with high school and college students on independent projects in economics, politics, public policy, and related social sciences, helping them turn an initial interest into a focused, feasible research paper. Projects might examine why countries differ in prosperity, how political institutions shape development, or whether public policies achieve their intended results.
From question to research plan
We refine the research question, identify competing explanations, assess existing research, and develop a proposal that connects the question to an appropriate method and available evidence.
From evidence to finished paper
Students learn to evaluate sources, collect and analyze evidence, build an argument, and revise their writing for clarity, rigor, and coherence. The goal is to develop the student's own research skills and judgment.

About Me
I am an economist and political scientist with a Ph.D. in Political Science and an M.A. in Economics. I have taught graduate students at Georgetown University and undergraduates at the University of California, San Diego.
My professional experience includes the Federal Reserve, U.S. Treasury, World Bank, USAID, and Stanford University. I now work with high school and college students in economics, government, political science, and research.
